A Key Has Broken Inside the Lock
Keys can weaken after repeated use and may eventually snap while being turned. When part of the key remains lodged in the cylinder, attempting to pull it out with unsuitable objects can push the fragment farther inside. Appropriate extraction tools allow the broken piece to be removed more carefully so the lock can then be checked for wear or internal damage.
